Established in September 15, 2017 Ukrainian Language and Literature Department, it is the first Ukrainian Language and Literature programme established in Turkey. Founder members: Assoc. Prof. Irina Dryga, Assoc. Prof. Oleksandr Sereda, Prof. İlyas Topsakal, Prof. Emine Inanir, Asst. Prof. Korhan Korbek.

Oleksandr Sereda was awarded a research prize on behalf of Agatangel Krımskıy for his book "Ottoman-Ukrainian Steppe Serhatti" by the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine.

Brief Information of our Department

The Department of Polish Language and Literature was founded and started education activities in 1992-1993 under the roof of the Slavic Languages and Literatures Department. Education has been suspended for a while since the 2000-2001 academic year. However, starting from 2014-2015 academic year, the education has begun again. As of the spring semester of 2018-2019, our department has started postgraduate education in the Polish Studies Master's Programme.

Scientific researches, studies and activities are carried out in the fields of "Language, Literature, History and Culture" with different disciplines on Poland. Scientific and educational activities are carried out in cooperation with various universities in Poland.

How to apply Double Major and Minor Programs?

It is possible to register for double major undergraduate programme and minor programmes in our department by providing at least 70 points from the exam in Polish which will be applied by the Department of Polish Language and Literature.

Graduate Education

There is a Master's Program under the name of Polish Studies.
-ALES-SÖZ score is required.
-1 year courses, afterward 1 or 2 years thesis writing process continues.
-The year of scientific preparation is applied for the students who graduate from different fields and are accepted to the programme.

Exchange Programs

-There are Erasmus exchange programme agreements with many universities in Poland.
- In addition, by the way bilateral agreements with Polish universities can be trained in Poland for one or two semesters, for example through NAWA programmes.
- Every year, many students are sent to the Polish government summer courses with a scholarship.

Every year;
The average of 15-20 students is provided with a scholarship opportunity to attend summer school language courses which are accelerated language and culture in different universities of Poland.
-Erasmus and NAWA programs offer the opportunity to spend one or two semesters in Poland.

There are two foreign student quotas for each term. On the choice of students, thesis can be written in English.

Brief Information of our Department

The Division of Russian Language and Literature was established in 1992 within the Department of Western Languages and Literatures. In the 2000-2001 academic year, the preparatory class started its activities and the education period was extended to 5 years. Again in 2000-2001 academic year, Master's and Doctorate programs in Russian Language and Literature were opened. Among the founder members of the Division of Russian Language and Literature are: Academician Tofik D. Melikov (Russian Academy of Sciences / 1992-1993), Emine İnanır (1990), Gönül Uzelli (1992), Canan Ersoy (1993), Dr. Nuri Eyupoğlu (1993-2000), Türkan Olcay (1994), Ataol Behramoğlu (1995-2009).

Brief Information Regarding the Scientific Works and Research Activities

Many scientific studies are published in the field of language, culture and literature, national and international projects are carried out or contributed by the academic staff of the division. Completed international project by the members of the division: IMLI RAN “Russian Literature in the World Context” 2019. The project titled “Skopje-Istanbul Urban Cultural Identities” supported by Ministry of Culture of the Republic of North Macedonia is one of the international projects currently being carried out by the members of the division.

Graduate Education

The rules regarding the curriculum, quotas, application conditions, calendar and other issues of postgraduate programs are determined by the Senate and announced by the Rector's Office.
Graduate Application Requirements: Being a graduate, getting enough points from ALES (SÖZEL), getting enough points from Foreign Language Exam.
Doctorate Application Requirements: To be a master’s degree graduate, to get enough score from ALES (SÖZEL), to get enough score from Foreign Language Exam.
(Scientific Preparatory Program is applied to students who have received their undergraduate degree in a field different from the Russian Language and Literature program for 1 year.)

Exchange Programs

Our division has Erasmus agreements with 3 countries and 5 universities: Lithuania, Poland and Bulgaria. Our students can also study abroad either for a semester or a year with the Mevlana Exchange Program.

Features that Distinguishes Our Department from Equivalent Departments

In our undergraduate program, the language skills of the students develop in a short time thanks to 1-year intensive preparatory education applied by experts and experienced lecturers. In addition, our students attend intermediate and advanced language courses during their education, and they also have the opportunity to see the culture, literature and art courses carried out by expert faculty members at a sufficient level.
It is also a great opportunity for our students to have bilateral agreements with the well-established universities of Russia. Our students, who provide the necessary conditions, can study at universities in Russia for one or two semesters without losing a year. In addition, our Department attaches great importance to the Erasmus program, constantly updates existing agreements and follows new agreement opportunities.

Students who meet the admission requirements set by the Institute of Social Sciences of Istanbul University can transfer to our graduate programs. The language of thesis for the graduate programs of our division is Turkish.
